In Chinese culture there are wishing ribbons that are most commonly hung on trees. People will write wishes on these ribbons and then hang them on the branches of sacred trees, hoping that the spirits of the tree will fulfill those wishes. The trees outside the window serve as a reminder of the origin of this tradition.
Each ribbon has a print of one of the 12 zodiac animals of the Lunar Calendar. They are printed in the 剪纸 Chinese Paper Cut style which is commonly used to represent these animals in Chinese culture.
